Observatory on Integrated Medicine

Interconnection and balance. The Observatory on Integrated (or Functional) Medicine aims to share information and knowledge about the mechanisms of interaction between biological systems—going beyond anatomical boundaries and conventional diagnostic frameworks, and recognising that the greatest impact on the onset of disease does not come from genes, but from lifestyle and environmental factors (in fact, these latter directly influence gene expression, shifting it towards states of health or illness).

Research areas:

  • Imbalances of the digestive, absorptive system and the microbiota

  • Imbalances in detoxification and biotransformation processes

  • Imbalances of the immune and inflammatory systems

  • Hormonal and neurotransmitter imbalances

  • Imbalances in redox metabolism and mitochondrial function

  • Cardiovascular and lymphatic transport imbalances

  • Imbalances in structural integrity—more precisely, in cellular integrity
